Fanwatch

Privacy policy

Last updated 30 October 2026. Short version: Fanwatch listens on your phone and sends nothing it hears. The only things that ever reach us are facts you suggest and facts you report.

Who we are. Fanwatch is an iPhone app published by Prime Directive AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (No. 16551401), 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. Contact: matt@primedirective.ai.

The microphone. When you tap Find my place, the app uses your phone's microphone and Apple's on-device speech recognition to turn the dialogue of what you are watching into words, then matches those words on your phone. The sound is never recorded or stored, and neither the sound nor the words are sent to us or anyone else. Listening stops when you tap again or close the app.

What stays on your phone. Your notes, emoji reactions, polls, thumbs up or down on facts, the last thing you watched and which facts you have already seen are kept in the app's storage on your device. We never see them. Deleting the app deletes them.

What you choose to send us. If you suggest a fact, we store the fact, its source, the episode or film and the scene, and a name if you give one. We review every suggestion before it appears, and an approved fact is shown to everyone with the name you gave. If you report a fact, we store the fact you reported and where it appeared. To stop spam, each of these also stores a short code made from your internet address and the date, scrambled one way so the address itself is never kept. It changes every day and cannot be turned back into your address.

What we do not collect. No account, no email address, no location, no contacts, no advertising identifiers and no usage analytics. There are no ads and no tracking, and we sell nothing to anyone.

Hosting. The app's pages and data are served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your internet address to deliver them and protect against abuse.

How long we keep things. Approved facts stay up while Fanwatch runs. Suggestions we turn down and reports are deleted within 12 months.

If Fanwatch changes hands. If Fanwatch, or the business behind it, is sold, merged or transferred, the data described here may transfer to the new owner, who must use it in line with this policy or tell you before anything changes.

Children. Fanwatch is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights. Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Because we hold so little, the quickest route is to email matt@primedirective.ai with the fact or report in question. Our legal basis for storing a fact or report is that you asked us to publish or review it.
